Routine & General Dentistry

Our main priority is to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy by treating and diagnosing any issues early on.

Therefore, it is very important to visit your dentist twice a year to make sure you get a general checkup and oral hygiene clean done in order to prevent and help diagnose any issues that might cause problems in the future.

Routine dental checkups also help detect oral cancer as soon as it appears which drastically increases the chances of having a successful treatment. To maintain your natural teeth for life through preventive care and expertise is a high priority. We will provide you with a personal dental care plan.

To maintain oral hygiene and prevent gum disease, daily brushing, flossing and regular routine visits to the dental hygienist are important. Periodontal disease and decay are both caused by bacterial plaque, which is a colourless film that is stuck to your teeth and gum line. Others factors that can affect the health of your gums include;

Poor nutrition
Clenching or Grinding teeth

If progressing periodontal disease is not treated, it can start to affect the gum tissue and bone that holds teeth in place leading to tooth loss. The licensed dental professional at SW11 medical Centre specialises in promoting oral health and preventing periodontal disease. The dental hygienist may also perform the following treatments:
• Removing hard and soft deposits (tartar and plaque) as well as stains from teeth.
• Giving personalized oral hygiene instructions to patients.
• Administering cavity prevention treatments such as fluoride and sealants.
• Performing scaling and root planning for patients with periodontal disease
• Educating patients about periodontal disease and the importance of good oral hygiene.

Pain, Emergency Treatment

Most people will agree that nothing is as painful as dental pain, which can happen at any time and any place.  Ignoring the pain isn’t an option and neither is delaying treatment as both would seriously compromise your health and comfort and therefore needs to be dealt with immediately as an emergency.

Tooth pain; Toothaches can be caused by a variety of reasons, damage from grinding or clenching, broken tooth or an old filling needs replacing.  The severity of the pain can be an indicator of a serious problem.  If you’re experiencing excruciating pain, don’t prolong your suffering and see an emergency dentist.

Broken and cracked teeth; Sports related injuries, fighting, car accidents or accidental falls can be causes of broken teeth.  You can save your tooth by the following;
Rinse your mouth will warm water
Save the tooth
Reduce swelling with ice packs
Take pain killers for temporary pain relief
Call Sw11 Medical Centre

Sore and swollen gums; Flossing the affected area and rinsing with warm salt water may help the pain. However, flossing and rinsing should be an important part of daily dental care.  If the pain doesn’t subside, then its likely you may have an infection from plaque or gum disease and should seek emergency dental care.

Lost crown or veneer; This may cause pain during simple eating and drinking. If you have the veneer or crown, bring it with you

We always aim to assist our existing and new patients with dental emergencies on the same day. Whether it’s a dental injury through impact (knocked out teeth, chipped or loose teeth), toothaches or excruciating pain.   Please contact the practice immediately in the case of emergency or pain. The sooner you get emergency treatment the higher your chances of saving your tooth and easing your discomfort.

Many people suffer from tooth sensitivity. This can be caused by decay, gum shrinkage, gum disease, chipped teeth, fillings or tooth grinding. The solutions vary depending on the cause. A consultation and possibly x-rays help to determine the cause and then appropriate action can resolve the situation.

Jaw Problems (TMJ) & Headaches

Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) is when the hinge connecting the upper and lower jaw is not working properly i.e. the complex system of muscles, ligaments, discs and bones.  Although its difficult to know for sure if a patient has TMJ, as the symptoms are present in other conditions, your dentist can diagnose the symptoms by taking a full medical and dental history, clinical examination and x-rays.  Some of the symptoms can be the following:

Headaches which mimic migraine
Pressure behind the eyes,
Clicking and popping sounds when you open or close the mouth.
Jaw that get locked
Pain brought on by yawning, or opening the mouth wide or chewing
Change in the way that the upper and lower teeth align
Tenderness in jaw muscles

Some of these symptoms can be due to clenching or grinding of your teeth. A simple and inexpensive night-guard appliance can be worn which protects the teeth whilst sleeping.  Your dentist will be able to offer effective solutions upon examination.

Our expert orthodontist can help you get back your smile and confidence with our innovative dental techniques and natural looking results.

You no longer have to accept or live with unsightly gaps, metal fillings, crooked misaligned, yellow stained, broken, chipped or missing teeth.  We can easily correct dental imperfections to create a naturally beautiful smile.

You can choose from a variety of advanced cosmetic dental solutions from Smile in a day to Veneers, teeth whitening, Damon system braces, composite fillings and more.  Your smile will be as individual and as unique as you, that means aligning a natural smile to your facial structure, gender and age

Chipped or Fractured Teeth

If you would like to correct minor dental imperfections such as gaps, chips, spots, stains and discolouration then using the latest bonding techniques is the cosmetic dental procedure for you.   This procedure is also effective for repairing fractures and reshaping teeth, depending on the severity of the problem.  Treatment is usually completed in one visit, and is therefore beneficial to those patients who are time limited.

Cosmetic bonding and contouring

This involves minor adjustments to your teeth either by trimming or by lightly etching the surface of the tooth and applying a bonding liquid.  Once the liquid has finished setting, a composite resin material is applied which is finally sculpted to help align the teeth or close any gaps thus creating the appearance of straighter teeth and improving your smile.

Teeth Whitening

As we get older, our teeth can become yellow, stained and discoloured from eating, drinking and smoking.  With our teeth whitening treatment, you can reverse the years of staining and get back the white dazzling smile you used to have.

We offer a safe and effective take home tray system, which is used overnight for 1-2 weeks depending on your starting shade and your desired result.

What kind of LED teeth whitening, any information available?

Tooth coloured fillings and porcelain inlays

Traditionally, fillings were made of a silver amalgam. Over time these often become discoloured and look black. Replacing these with tooth colour-matched restorations can improve the appearance of your teeth.

Veneers, crowns and bridgework

Veneers:    Medial Centre offer the best quality, natural –looking dental veneers, so you can have the beautiful, confident smile you’ve always wanted.  Porcelain veneers are the preferred type of dental veneer simply because no other material matches it in strength and natural appearance, and are highly resistant to staining.  The result is of a naturally enhanced beautiful smile.

Bridgework:  With a dental bridge, you can not only replace missing teeth. But the functionality of eating and chewing regular food and speaking properly.  Bridgework also restores the aesthetics of your smile and we use porcelain teeth as it’s the closest match to the natural look and feel of your teeth.

Crowns:  Dental crowns is an effective procedure for restoring a tooth that has become infected, damaged or fallen out, it is basically a cap that surrounds the tooth.  Our dentist is able to restore the tooth that looks natural while resolving oral health issues.

A person’s smile can transform their entire appearance, restore self confidence and make it easier for them to speak properly.  Your dentist will guide you on the best dental procedure for your circumstances since there is great potential on offer.  However, if you are getting dental crowns or dental bridges for cosmetic procedures then we would recommend that you whiten your teeth first.

The space created by missing teeth can quickly become infected with bacteria, causing other teeth to shift out of place and causing pain, disease, difficulty in eating and speaking and loss in self esteem.   At SW11 Medical Centre implants are used to replace missing single or multiple teeth in a fixed way. The big advantage of this option is that the replacements are independent of the remaining natural teeth. Implants can also be used to replace the need for dentures totally or to support dentures very firmly thereby restoring lost confidence. You can discuss this with your dentist who will assess the situation and arrange an implant consultation.

Dental Abscess & Root Canal Treatment

Dental abscesses occur when the tooth becomes infected by oral bacteria. Root canal treatments are a means of treating the infection and preserving the tooth. It involves cleaning and disinfecting the inside of the tooth and filling the root to seal it and prevent further problems. Many of these teeth then need to be protected by crowns to ensure a long and satisfactory lifespan.

At Medical Centre, we have years of experience crafting custom dentures to help patients eat, speak and smile with confidence.    Missing teeth can not only negatively affect your ability, to eat, speak and smile but also cause your jaw to lose bone mass, remaining teeth to shift and your face to alter in appearance.

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth, also known as false teeth.   They are custom crafted for you, easy to maintain and restore the look and function of your smile and laugh. Nowadays, dentures are natural looking, comfortable and can last for decades with proper care.  If you are missing teeth, arrange a consultation with our dentist to discuss whether dentures are suitable for you as a long term solution, as well as alternatives such as dental bridges or dental implants.

Nervous Patients

You can expect the best dental care with a reassuring, gentle and caring hand.  We make every effort to ensure your appointment is as relaxing and painless as possible, however there are times we need to accommodate nervous patients who need a little extra time and personal attention.

In cases where it is required, we can offer gentle sedation to ensure patients are able to receive the dental care they need even if they are apprehensive or uncomfortable.
