Carboxytherapy is s a safe, minimally invasive treatment which rejuvenates, reconditions and repairs the skin.
The treatment involves administration of carbon dioxide gas [CO2] to the dermal layer (surface) and hypodermis layer (just beneath the skin) with micro injections. Carboxytherapy originated at the Royal Spas of France in 1932 with the treatment of patients suffering with peripheral arterial occlusive disease (POAD is the development of pain due to inadequate blood flow).
Nowadays carbon dioxide therapy has been applied to the treatment of stretch marks, cellulite, and hypertrophic scars and dark under eye circles with impressive results. Studies have demonstrated that carboxytherapy improves skin elasticity, improves circulation, encourages collagen repair, improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and destroys localized fatty deposits. There are no known risks associated with carboxytherapy.
How does Carboxytherapy work
As we age, blood circulation in the dermis is reduced, which means less oxygen is getting to the cells. When the blood cells are exposed to high concentrations of carbon dioxide (a natural gas, produced by cells in our own bodies), they flip their conformation, release the oxygen molecules, and pick up the carbon dioxide so that we can exhale it from our lungs. In a sense, by injecting small amounts of carbon dioxide gas just below the surface of the skin, we are tricking it into increasing the blood circulation to that area. By increasing the amount of oxygen getting to the cells will become more active thus speed up the healing or new cell production required to rejuvenate the area. Dark under-eye circles, cellulite, and stretch marks have all been shown to have some root cause in poor blood circulation.
Carboxy Therapy effectively treats;
Puffy eyes and dark circles
Stretch marks and cellulite
Body skin tightening
Lines and wrinkles, skin tightening, nasolabial folds, marionette lines
Hair growth stimulation to the scalp
Localized fat deposits in buttocks, thighs, stomach, back, hip, knees, arms and chin areas
Does it hurt?
The treatment is generally said to be fairly painless, however you may feel a strange sensation as the area is injected, some people will feel slight discomfort, pressure or stinging sensation. Most patients find they can return to normal activities immediately after the treatment.
Most people see improvements immediately, however we’re all unique so it could take up to a month for the face/body to react to a treatment. More pronounced and long lasting results are seen after regular treatments.
Depending on the condition and the area to be treated we recommend between 6-12 treatments for optimal results and regular maintenance will extend the benefits.
