Full facial contours are an enviable symbol of youth. Without adequate facial volume, facial features become drawn and sunken – making you look much older than you’d like. SW11 Medical Centre offers a variety of dermal fillers to help reverse the effects of aging and give you the supple skin of your youth.
As your skin ages, it loses the collagen that helps shape and support it. Natural lines and wrinkles deepen. Sun exposure, smoking, air pollution, weight loss and even stress can all age your appearance. Unfortunately all these factors take a toll on your face.
Dermal fillers such as Juvederm®, Restylane® and Sculptra® Radiesse, (others like STYLAGE??) are used as an effective treatment in reducing deep lines and wrinkles, fill hollows, enhance sunken cheeks, provide volume, assymetry and smooth the contours of your face. Anti-ageing facial fillers are the non-surgical way to achieve younger fresher looking you.
How Derma Fillers work
Skin naturally produces hyaluronic acid (basically a sugar compound responsible for delivering and maintaining moisture and nutrient levels in skin cells). This helps in creating volume and smoothness in your skin. Unfortunately over time, this ability decreases. Dermal fillers such as Juvederm®, which is a smooth gel that is made of cross linked hyaluronic acid particles. When it is injected into fine lines, wrinkles and sunken areas of the face, it replenishes the hyaluronic acid that has been lost. This helps you achieve a more youthful appearance.
All fillers work by restoring volume to the face. Some are injected more superficially than others to fill lines and some are injected more deeply to add volume to hollows and depressions. Fillers such as Radiesse and Sculptra provide a scaffolding on which your body will respond by laying down new collagen for a more long lasting result.
- Not all fillers achieve the same result for every patient. Individuals results may vary.
Derma fillers come in a number of formulas and varying strengths, so treatments can be tailor made to the specific need of each patient following an initial consultation with an Aesthetic Doctor at SW11 Medical Centre.

The area to be treated is cleansed and a numbing cream is applied for your comfort. The Aesthetic doctor will inject small amounts of dermal filler directly into the skin using an ultrafine needle. The dermal filler administered helps to plump up the skin to smooth out lines and wrinkles. If the lips or facial contours are being treated, the filler adds volume, restores shape and gives a fuller, fresher appearance.
Dermal filler treatments are only carried out by fully qualified aesthetic doctors and nurses.
This depends on the type of filler. If you’re having a hyaluronic acid filler like Restlylance or Juvederm to plump up lips, correct nasolabial lines or fill out hollows, then you will see the results immediately. With a collagen stimulating filler, like sculptra it will take several months before optimal correction is achieved, this is because these fillers require multiple treatments.
Will it hurt
You may experience minor discomfort during the injection of fillers. Topical anesthetic applied to the skin before the procedure can minimize needle stick pain. Most fillers are viscous, so when they are injected they stretch the skin causing injection pain. However hyaluronic acid fillers contain lidocaine which significantly lessen injection pain during the procedure.
Afterwards there may be a small amount of swelling which will quickly subside, however you may leave the clinic as soon as you are ready to do so. There is no recovery time and you may return to normal activities immediately. It is also possible to experience some swelling or bruising to the area being injected and typically doesn’t last longer than 48 hours.
Your aesthetic Doctor will discuss your natural looking aesthetic treatment plan with you, as well as your recovery and maintenance programme.
